'Earth care, people care, fair share' - Permaculture Principles
“When it is understood that one loses joy and happiness in the attempt to possess them, the essence of natural farming will be realized. The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings.”
― Masanobu Fukuoka, The One-Straw Revolution
Biomimicry
Observe and interact
Catch and store energy
Catch and store water
Obtain a yield
Apply self regulation and feedback
Use and value renewables
Waste is a resource
Design from patterns to details - plants guilds
Integrate dont segregate
Use small, slow solutions - use space and time.
Use and value diversity
Use edges and value the margins
Creatively use and respond to change
Design plant guilds in diverse plant communities in functional groups within the context, rather than individual plants. Plants in nature are in mutually beneficial relationships with the surrounding plants. Dense, diverse communities are greater than the sum of their parts.
